Installation Guide ​

This section describes how to install openEuler DevStation using a CD/DVD-ROM. For other installation methods, except that the boot method at the start of installation may differ, the rest of the installation process is the same; therefore, they will not be repeated in this section.

Starting the Installation ​

Installing via CD/DVD-ROM ​

To install openEuler DevStation using a CD/DVD-ROM, the steps are as follows:

1. On the VM VirtualBox toolbar, create a new virtual machine. A virtual-machine-creation dialog box will appear.
2. In the virtual-machine-creation dialog box, select virtual CD-ROM, and click the drop-down list. Then select the DevStation image.
3. Next configure the hardware based on the specifications described in section "Installation Preparations".

Installation Wizard ​

After the system is booted using the boot medium, the boot menu is displayed. In addition to starting the installation program, this menu provides some options. By default, the system is installed using "Start openEuler-24.03-LTS-SP2-DevStation-x86_64-dvd.iso 24.03-LTS-SP2". To select an option other than the default, use the Up (↑) and Down (↓) arrow keys on the keyboard, and press Enter when the desired option is highlighted.

The installation wizard options are described as follows:

• Start openEuler-24.03-LTS-SP2-DevStation-x86_64-dvd.iso 24.03-LTS-SP2 – default option.
• Troubleshooting – used for fault locating when the system cannot be installed properly (function needs to be enhanced).

On the installation wizard screen, press e to enter the parameter editing interface for the selected option, or press c to enter the command-line mode.

After DevStation is started, it enters the main interface in LiveCD mode. The system installation service is automatically started with DevStation user privileges to perform disk installation. Select the authentication option to access the installation welcome page.

Selecting System Language ​

On the welcome screen, select a language for the system, as shown in Figure 2. You can also adjust the setting based on actual needs.

Setting Data and Time ​

On the BasicSetting page, set the time zone, date, and time of the system.

When setting the time zone, you can select a region and city from the drop-down lists of Region and Zone at the top of the page, as shown in Figure 3.

If your city is not in the drop-down list, select the nearest city in the same time zone.

Creating Account and Password ​

On the UserSetting page, create an account and password, as shown in Figure 4. Enter the password based on the [password complexity requirements](#password complexity) and enter the password again for confirmation.

As shown in the figure above, after selecting the Use the same password for the root account. option, the root account will use the same password as the user account configured on this page. This option avoids entering the password multiple times. (People tend to set the same password for different accounts to make it easier to remember.) Conversely, if this option is deselected, you can set a separate password for the administrator account on this page.

Selecting Installation Software ​

On the UserSetting page, select DevStation to specify the software packages to be installed.

You can also select Minimal Install on the left based on actual service requirements, as shown in Figure 5.

Selecting Installation Destination ​

On the InstallSetting page, select a storage device to set the installation disk and partitions for the OS.

On the page shown in Figure 6, you can view the available local storage devices on the computer.

Storage Configuration (to be completed) ​

Automatic partitioning

If you are performing a fresh installation on an unused storage device, or if you do not need to retain any data on the device, it is advised to select Automatic partitioning.

Custom partitioning (to be completed)

Starting installation ​

After completing the configuration of all required options on the installation interface, click Install to start the system installation, as shown in Figure 7.

Installation in Progress ​

After the installation starts, the installation progress and the progress of writing the selected software package to the system are displayed, as shown in Figure 8.

Installation Complete ​

After the installation process is complete, openEuler DevStation is installed. You can restart the system by clicking the corresponding button.
